News Round Up: Adios Nicky
By: Matilda | July 30th, 2010
This is a bit sad, mostly because Nicky Hunt has been with us for so long. Today Hunt’s move to Bristol City officially went through. A product of the Bolton academy, he made 161 appearances for the club, scoring 1 goal, over 8 years of first team play. However he hasn’t played in a Bolton shirt since 2008, as our right back needs are covered by Gretar Steinsson and Sam Ricketts. I have a feeling the Championship may suit him a little more. Best of luck to Nicky Hunt!
Moving in the other direction may be our dear Croat, Ivan Klasnic. His loan at the Reebok expired at the end of last season, however his real club Nantes is (still) in a fiscal pickle, so offloading the £3mil salary is looking awfully tempting from their standpoint. I’d be delighted to have him back, as I tihnk every Bolton fan would be. He gets a good haul, has a good work rate, and is generally just a good character to have around.
Lastly Zat Knight has had his bit to say about the performance against Oldham:
“Maybe the result against Oldham will give us the right kick up the backside,” said Knight. “I can probably say more about where we are as a team after the game on Saturday. It’s pre-season and you have to get the bad habits out. But we should have done a lot better than that, regardless of the standard of opposition we were facing. A lot of people didn’t turn up and maybe some of us thought we’d turn up and roll right over them.”
I must say I like Zat Knight more and more. He’s really grown into himself as a footballer, and I do enjoy nit when players can honestly come out and admit they didn’t do well.

Hey man, Real Madrid fan here, Bolton just signed a left back from our academy—Marcos Alonso, I would love to see him play, do you think he has a chance of starting for Bolton?
Also, can you tell me when is Bolton’s next pre-season friendly.

I did actually do a post on it the day we signed him, if you’re interested: http://bolton.theoffside.com/transfers/welcome-to-bolton-alonso-no-not-that-one.html
I reckon he will get quite a bit of play, as our leftbacks are rather crap. Our team is also in rebuilding phase, so new players will really get a look in.
He is recovering from an injury currently, so I’m not sure if he’ll be able to play, but our next friendly is on Monday against a Scottish side St. Johnstone.

Thanks a lot. I’ll be watching that game.
Yeah he was suffering from an ankle injury earlier, but he did return to training with us just before he left, the kid’s got immense talent, broke through from Juvenil A (U-19) to the Castilla (reserve) in a single year. Got a great left foot on him, long shooting is good plus 6′2″, great phyisical strength, can succeed in the Premier League.
