Bolton 0-1 Aston Villa
By: Matilda | April 5th, 2010
Hello everyone, I’ve returned safe and sound from West Texas, and if you’ve ever been to West Texas, you know that’s no mean feat. I hope you all had a lovely, relaxing Easter, despite the result at the weekend. If you missed the match, clicky click right here for some highlights.
It seems to have been another rather typical Wanderers performance, overall not bad but a bit of dodgy defending has led us to come away with nothing. With only 5 games left in the season, and only 5 points separating us from the relegation zone, it is most definitely getting down to squeaky bum time.
We haven’t scored in 3 games and our clean sheet record has gone to crap. After a rather aggressive start, seeing a fine Cohen shot saved by Friedel, the Bolton back four were caught sleeping. Ashley Young skipped around Ricketts and sent a screamer into the back of the net. The issue is that no one was trying to shut him down, they were just standing there and watching. Had they worked harder, put more pressure on Young, things could have worked out differently.
From there the Wanderes were a bit deflated, though Klasnic did get some fine shots in. While Villa looked the better team, it wasn’t by much, and if you look at the statistics, things were pretty even. This was another match that, had Bolton taken their chances, could’ve given us a point. And we can’t really sacrifice any points right now.
To me it seems pretty sure that Portsmouth and Burnley are going down, but that third club is up in the air. It could be any of about 5, and Bolton is right in the scuffle. Not only that, but tomorrow we have to travel down London-way and face Chelsea, which I’ll just say out front, will not be giving us any points. We need to get results against Stoke, Portsmouth, and Birmingham if we hope to stay up. I think we can do it, but I am by no means sure about it.

Come on Bolton, please please take some points off of Chelsea for us. I still don’t think you guys are in real danger of going down, I think the team’s showing some improvement under Coyle, and you only really need 2-3 more points to be safe, which you’ll get with home games against Portsmouth and Brum.
Sorry to hear you had to go to West Texas — I’ve been there several times, and it’s pretty dire out there.
